TED Talk: The The mysterious lives of giant trees

A tree so tall, it could stand out in midtown Manhattan. And tree that is 38 stories tall, and has the circumference of 30 feet. Unfortunately there is only 40% of the forest left. Sequoia Sempervirens  aka the redwood tree it the largest living organism alive.

What’s left of the once huge Redwood forest is protected with little parks throughout the coast of california. Long ago people cut down Redwoods for house and lumber because of that there is only 4% of the original Redwood rainforest left. The forests of Sequoia Sempervirens is highly unexplored. There are so many things living out of one tree, mini tree come out of this huge tree. It’s like a fractal. These trees are amazing. Unfortunately there is an invasive species that is killing the Sequoia Sempervirens. It’s like the Ebola of trees.

I feel actually pretty sad about this video. There are these beautiful trees that are dying. I really want to climb one of these trees they are so amazing. It’s strange to see something so green since we live in such a dry place. Its almost surreal.
